An Elegant Apartment Feels Like a Portal into the Past
Salvaged materials and old-world charm make this in-law suite an inviting place to spend time with family.
This in-law apartment was built to accommodate frequent visits with family and to enable spending time with growing grandchildren. The space is open yet cozy. I felt like I was walking into an old-world kitchen because of the charm, warmth, and textures of the reclaimed materials. Alpine Home Design, located in the same town, procured many of the repurposed pieces. The walls are plaster, and the floors are reclaimed pine boards. My favorite part of the entire place is the French-chateau windows, which are also salvaged. Custom-built frames were made to fit seamlessly into the design, making them look like they had always been there. Who would ever guess that this unique and quiet space exists over a garage?
