Versatile Vise
The IQ Vise has angled jaws, a simple locking mechanism, and solid holding power.
Until recently, the only non-cabinetmaker’s vise I owned was pathetic—undersized, with a frozen swivel base and a missing handle. It was so useless that I found myself using regular hand clamps instead. So when I was at IBS and came across the IQ Vise System at the Work IQ booth, I knew right away that I needed one.
The jaws on the IQ Vise are attached to an articulating ball and socket, so they can be positioned at a convenient angle. The jaws are locked in place with a cam compression lever mounted at the bottom of the base, which easily keeps the jaws secure in my work.

For heavy-duty torquing, a pin can lock the jaws in both the vertical and horizontal positions, allowing them to handle 130 lb. of force. I got the standard kit for about $280, which, in addition to the standard metal jaws, includes a pair of Flex-Fit jaws.
These reversible jaws have a flat, rubberized surface on one side and a nonmarring grooved surface for tubes and dowels on the other. Available accessories include additional quick-change, task-specific jaws, and a light and magnifying glass on gooseneck arms.
