A Closer Look at Smart Water-Leak Detection Systems
This device will help ensure you never get surprised by a high water bill again.
Water damage is one of the most common (and costly) issues homeowners face, yet many leaks go undetected until it’s too late. That’s where smart water-leak detection systems come in. Resideo offers three options for smart water-leak detection, each of which sends real-time alerts straight to your smartphone so you’re always in the know. Check out the video above or keep reading to learn more about these leak-detection options from Josh Salinger, CEO and founder of Birdsmouth Design Build.

Water leaks can be a huge problem in your home. You don’t want leaks to happen and go unnoticed, because they can create all sorts of damage and require costly repairs. There are some really cool products available on the market to help with this. We’re here at the Resideo booth at IBS 2025, and they’ve got a couple of different sensor options on display.
Essentially these are remote sensors that you place in areas where water leaks might occur. For example, you might put one behind your toilet in case of a leak, in the pan under your water heater, or in the condensate pump of your HVAC equipment.
When water is detected, the sensor sends a notification to your phone via an app. Some models, like Resideo’s L2 unit, go a step further by sending an alert to your HVAC system’s condensate pump and automatically shutting down the equipment to prevent further water generation.
Additionally, there’s a physical shutoff-valve option that can be installed in-line with your water main. When a leak is detected, the system can automatically shut off your water supply. This is especially useful if you’re away on vacation when a leak occurs.
These smart water-leak detection systems are great solutions to consider if you’re renovating or building a new home. I highly recommend looking into products like these.
