FHB Podcast Segment: Embodied Greenhouse Gas Emissions and the Building Codes
Could a building code update make your go-to materials obsolete?

In episode 692 of the Fine Homebuilding Podcast, Nik from Saskatchewan writes in about a potential change to Canada’s National Building Code. The organization that develops the code has proposed an update that would factor embodied greenhouse gas emissions into the next iteration. Nik is concerned this will “effectively outlaw” affordable building materials such as spray foam and vinyl siding. He asks the podcast crew what other materials might be affected if these updates are applied to the next version of Canada’s building code. Tune in to hear what they have to say.
