18v bosch planer repair

factotam | Posted in Tools for Home Building on February 24, 2007 05:55am

i have a bosch 18v planer, i need to replace the motor, i can purchase the motor assembly or just the motor, i would like to purchase just the motor but i do not know how to remove and replace the drive bulley assembly (822) from the motor (2)

here is a picture of the parts  http://66.77.255.87/Images/BOSCHPDF/53518_pdf/PDF_DIAGRAM/53518.pdf

i also have a 18v bosch jig saw, the motor went out last month and it cost $100.00 for the local tool repair service to replace it.

both the planer and jig saw have seen little use and are under 2 years old, does anyone know why the motors are failing so soon

This is more or less a bump so someone else my help.

My BIL purchased the large Bosch kit(5 or 6 pieces I think) about 1 1/2 years ago.  It came with 2 batteries and he purchased 1 extra. All batteries are total kaput and he is looking at spending about $250 to replace(batteries alone). Need less to say he is not a happy camper.

i got the kit also, i picked it up from home depot, it was marked down to i believe only $400.00, it came with a circular saw, planer, hammer drill, jig saw, and sawsall and light and two batteries and a charger and a canvis carrying case, i have had good luck with the batteries, but the motors are going out from such little use that they must be defective-i expected better quality from bosch

toolbarn has the 18v batteries at a good price

Have you contacted Bosch and asked them to put you in their pro repair program?

I would expect them to warranty a worn out motor in under 2 years.

All of Bosch's 18 volt cordless models have come with a 3 year Pro-vantage warranty for the last 4-5 years or so.Not usre if it's some crap like Ridgid's lifetime warranty where you only get it IF you register, but I'd bet Bosch woud stand by their tools even if you didn't register and still had the reciept.I've had my 18 Bosch kit for over 3 years and I got rid of my corded planer and jigsaw after I got the kit so I've used both the planer and jigsaw a ton with no issues thus far, other than some of planer bearings getting a bit dried up - which they took apart and lubed for me under warranty. As for batteries - for the first 18 months - they'll relace them unconditionally, and for the remainder of the 3 years they'll sell you new batteries for 1/2 price. My original batteries are still going ok as far as I can tell ( I have 4), and Just in case I bought a couple new ones from the service center for $42 each as part of the warranty coverage just before the 3 years ran out.JT

thanks for the suggestion of contacting bosch, i was not aware of the pro-advantage program, i didnt see any information on it when i purchased my tools, but i called the number and then i faxed my information to them, so when i get registered i will have a 3 year warrenty on my tools

thats what i am going to do, but being frugal or cheap, i wanted to see if i could get the drive pull assembly (822) off of the motor shaft and save 15 bucks-it would seem that i would need some type of small gear puller to get it off
