26 Gauge Metal vs Copper for Clay Tile Roof Flashing
Wondering if we can use colored 26 gauge metal with 45 year guarantee in valleys and to flash chimney on our new clay tile roof. A tile roofer told us he has used these on many roofs in Florida; they have held up well and are much cheaper than copper. Any comments and advice would be appreciated, before we spend money on copper flashing.

The vast majority of tile roofs here in south Florida don't have open valleys at all so the roofers don't use any metal in them, just an extra layer of 90# or whatever they're using for the real roof.
metal vs copper flashing
Thanks for the info. We really don't know where in Florida or how recently this roofer said he had used the aluminum as flashing. We are in WV. He may be working for a metal roof company for all we know.
We are trying to find out if this would be wise to do. The metal we are looking at says it has a 45 year PAINT warranty.
I would use the painted aluminum myself but then tile roofs don't last 45 years down here anyway so the risk would be small.
