3 inch galvanized steel round post versus wood 4×6 or 6×6
I am planning a pergola and would like it to structurally support a small sun deck,
say 8 foot by 16 foot in dimension. I’d like to consider using 3 inch round steel galvanized posts that I would box with wood. Does anyone know if 3 inch round steel galvanized posts spaced at 8 feet would be structurally as supportive as a wood ? I’m not sure that
steel posts have brackets and ties to create a pergola.. thanks

Maybe if you used drill pipe or another very heavy walled pipe but even then you'd need an engineer's approval. Your building department won't accept it unless it's engineered. Why reinvent the wheel?
