so Lennox calls me today to ask me if I have any questions about their products. I ask if they sell Bandsaw blades in 59″ lengths. He says yes, they can weld them together with a $60,000 (yes sixty thousand dollar) German welder, the best they can buy.
Do they seriously have a $60,000 BSB welder and why would they ever spend so much?
I’m just sayin’

It's probably an automated machine that is robotically controlled, loads the right blade material, makes the weld with typical German precision, and coils it up. It could have a vision system that uses camera and computer to inspect the weld also. A big company can pay off a machine like that in a couple months, since they don't need a skilled worker to do the job.
they probably make quite a few different types of saw blades and the machine would most likely automate almost the whole process of making each one in all the lengths available, from raw material to packing it up, all they would need is some college dropout to load it
that price tag isn't that bad,
since it would have a German support tech in a separate box with his own tools :)

You need that saw for the day when someone drops a load of recycled beams on your for next to nothing. Then you can mill up a bunch of trim and make back the cost of the saw in a few hours. Go git 'er!
Sounds like if you don't buy it you're losing $58,500.
I have seen a laser welder, which was a fantastic machine, but it was only $40K.
I buy 25 blades a month. Years ago the blades would break at the welds. I would get a blade a day per saw. I now get a blade a week per saw. The newer welding machines besides welding the blades heat treat the weld so the surrounding blade material is not weakened by the welds. There are now a lot of exotic blade materials out there and the welding requirements vary between the materials. I am sure this machine is computer programmed to preform the welds deepening on the material. I would stay away from welding your own blades. Not worth it.
What are you turning out with all that bandsawing?
Cutting gates and risers off Alum Castings.
Maybe they bought it from a Govt supplier.
Family.....They're always there when they need you.
I think what they meant to say was there was a German, probably named Dieter or Gunter, that they paid 60k a year to do the welding. ;>
