I am currently thinking of a career change and going back to school for a degree in Construction Management (I have a degree in Business Management). I would appericate any advice/suggestions anyone has. Also in your opinion what type of opportunities are out there once I graduate.

Where are you able to get a degree in construction? I wonder if they offer corospondence courses? Let me know please.
*Texas A&M offers construction management degrees. lots of opportunity now with the construction boom. Also potential for moving into facility management for a corporation.
*And you could minor in bonfire stacking...kidding, I was just KIDDING...
*Charles:Do it right, man. You've got the education. Go back to school and start your CM program. Get yourself a summer job(not an internship) with a GC or sub in commercial construction. Laborer is great, you'd be surprised what an intelligent laborer(not necessarily an oxymoron) can learn about the business. Pick up all the ancillary courses you can(Intro to CE, EE, ME, AE at a minimum). Finish your degree.Send out resumes. There are literally hundreds(if not thousands) of GC's here in Atlanta actively seeking out junior PM's. Do your time as a Cubicle Clone. Make no mistake about it, you'll get the dog jobs($100-500K). Expend many hours(you'll be on salary) making mistakes and learning your trade and you'll move on up to a site assignment as A'sst. Project Manager. Again, pay your dues. Pretty soon, if you're not an absolute dumb***, you'll move up to Senior PM with a salary plus bonus based on profit. At this point, if you're competent, you'll be living really well(with profit sharing, benefits, 401K, etc.). Congratulations!Things to remember: People build buildings, computers just help.Professional ethics. The Golden Rule.Hold weekly Safety Meetings. If you do, you won't have any problem shaving in the morning.Be an asset to your chosen profession.LOL,Bill
*Charles, I recently applied to a few schools in order to go back and get a CM degree. If this is any help at all there is an association for schools with CM programs and they have a web site that lists all institutions that are accredited by them, with direct links to those schools. With a credit card and some time you can make applications over the internet in less then a day. Do a search because I don't have the exact address for American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), if you have any problems let me know and I will try and help out. Aside from commercial construction play your cards right with your classes and consulting & development are two other areas that your degree might extend to. That is of course all dependent upon the amount of experience you have on site and your interest in business. Good Luck. Matt
