A customer hired someone else to install hardwood treads over existing prefab stair sections in their home. Without discussing potential code violations (?) they now want the bullnose section of original tread filled, repaint trim boards, etc. Yep, quality guy did the install by removing bullnose section back to almost flush with riser, installed a trim piece to hide original tread.
Thoughts are as follows:
1. Remove existing trim, if not glued. Fabricate bullnose profile to match, measure depth (est. 3/8 – 1/2), cut, glue, brad, putty, sand, mask, paint.
2. Leave existing trim in place, use DAP or similiar material to fill voids, allow to harden, putty, sand, mask, paint.
My thoughts are that it would look better to proceed based on #1. However, I have not verified if trim is glued, nothing in writing yet, all preliminary. I will be pricing based on above alternates. Any additional advice or rec’s appreciated.
Any advice on pricing, seems like a lot of trips for what is really a little bit of work.
TIA.
