The recent issue has reminded me of a question that I have had about steel roofing for years. The industries’ spend so much time and obvious technology in making the material as corrosive resistant as possible, but what about when it is installed in the field? More specifically, what happens to all the hand-cut edges? Are they coated by the installer? If so, with what color-matching material? If not, what keeps them from rusting, and the corrosion from migrating into and under all those expensive coatings?
