I’m installing a pre-fab wood medallion in my 3/4 unfinished oak floor. The floor is stapled over rosin paper, but the medallion has to be glued directly to the subfloor.
The directions say to use “flooring adhesive”. The guy with the orange apron recommended polyurethane flooring adhesive, but they only sell 4 gallon pails at $112.
Can I just use a $4 tube of PL Polyurethane instead? It would seem to bond wood to wood pretty securely and have a bit of give. Should I try to spread it out with a notched trowel before placing the medallion, or just apply it with the caulking gun in a fairly even pattern and go?

Squirt the PL adhesive on the back of the medallion and spread it evenly with a small notch trowel. I would outline the hole in the floor with blue tape first just in case the medallion touches down before it gets in the recess. Weight it down with something heavy, a stack of books or a loaded toolbox. Or just run some long sheetrock screws through it.
