Just wondering if anyone can help me out. I would like to build an adjustable jig for cutting tapered 2x4x8s with a circular saw. We install hot tubs and as concrete pads are generally sloped we have to shim tubs to make them level. Given the supports on the tubs I need to usually cut 5 or 6 shims to ensure it is level and supported throughout the base. For instance one project could require 6 shims at 78″ in length that tapers from 1.75″ to 0″ over that length. Others could be 2.5″ to 0″ over 86″. We currently do it all with a chalk line and circ saw but I would like to have build something that allows for more consistency and easier use so anyone can pick it up and cut the right sizes. Any suggestions for something that is moderately portable and durable to be reused over and over would be great.
Thanks!

Rockier had a video of how to make what is sometimes called a shooter board. A home made type of rip guide.
Hope the above link can show it.
Edit: there’s a bunch of videos on that page on making your own rip guide.
For a guide like that in the video Calvin linked to, you could drop a half-dozen countersunk holes in the guide, and plan to secure it to a backer 2x for each job with a few flat head screws. Somewhat simple to measure, and should enable repeatable results.
