I was going through old FHBs and in the Summer 1999 Houses Annual there was an article on a house built of ACC blocks in N. Carolina. The article makes building with ACC sound like a pretty fabulous way to put up a reasonably priced house (with some caveats about the resistance of most masons to using it). I have wanted to build a strawbale house ever since the early 70s but am ending up in Virginia near the coast, and the climate just doesn’t seem suited to strawbale to me. Looking at the pictures, and reading the raves makes ACC sound like a pretty good alternative.
So, what have people experienced with this stuff? I know it has been in use in Europe for ages – in fact I remember seeing some houses in Ireland being built with it – but how about in the Mid-Atlantic states? Supposedly it is manufactured in GA which is good…
