Does anyone know where I can obtain any information on a fuel for ventless fire places called alcohol gell. They are supposed to be similar to a “Sterno” type of product but burn cleaner. We are hoping to put a ventless fire place in our small new addition and have incountered problems with the possibility of too much heat ,and air quality. Any ideas or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Fitz

"Squeeze" is methl alcohol. It'll be very helpful when the Andromeda Strain hits.

If you are going for a "ventless" combustion appliance; be sure your health insurnace is paid up and get a low level CO monitor from http://www.aeromedix.com.
Better yet, get a vented appliance. "Ventless" means your house is the flue and you are living in a chimney.

Agree with Bob: strongly recommend a vent. Theoretically thousands of chemical reactions could be used to fire a "ventless" fireplace; however, theory is not reality. For instance "pure" coal gas (methane) should yield nothing but carbon dioxide and water, perfectly fine to burn without a vent, which we obviously do not do, and that's the simplest hydrocarbon there is. Alcohols are even more complex. Carbon monoxide, a frequent byproduct of burning hydrocarbons, competes with oxygen to bind with our blood, and does the job about 150 times better...
