OK Boys……here’s a scratcher,
We just started this HUGE house full of trim. The mill that made the windows missed on a few of the jamb widths. Too wide…….they stick about 2″ into the house past the drywall. The builder comes to me (the trim sub) and ask me to cut them back flush to the drywall. Doesn’t sound like too big a deal….right?
The jambs are 1½” thick mahogany. Some are multiple units linked together to make one big window which means there are center mullions to deal with. The builder had the bright idea of running a jamb saw around the perimeter of the window to cut down the sides……that’s OK, but when we did one, the waves in the drywall telegraphed to the cut in the window jamb. You see where I am going with this.
That’s not all……there are multiple windows with top transoms above in a radius wall in the family room that they now want cut to the radius. Cut from the inside, mind you. I told them the windows have to come out and be cut on the bench. I see no other way. I can make it work from the outside of the window jamb perimeter, but not from the inside after they have been installed and the mason has locked them in with cast stone on the outside of the house.
Like I said, I’m open to all suggestions. But don’t tell me to have the mill fix them, that’s not an option at this point.
What would you do?
Ed.
