We recently purchased a house without central air and with sliding windows (no double hung in the whole house). Strategic rooms have a 220 outlet underneath a window, but darned if we can figure out what kind of units can fit in these sliders.
I saw an add in a recent fine home building for AC’s that looked… different, but can’t find it again. Anyone have any suggestions short of central air?
Thanks

Jim,
what you may be talking about is a "split sysytem". the condensing unit sits outside the house just like a whole house central air system but instead of connecting to the furnace it connects to a unit that looks like a window unit that hangs on the wall. I don't know how many of these units that you can connect to one condensing unit but it is more than one. there is an add in the FHB magazine and I believe they have a web site. I know WW Grainger sells them. I have one of these units in my house and it works very well. Nice thing is that it's ductless and you don't see the AC unit hanging out of a window. hope this helps some

*There are room air conditioners which are tall and narrow to fit into sliders. You don't often see them on display, but as of the last time I looked a couple of years ago, they were available. Most room A/C units seem to be 120v these dys, but if you have 220 available where you need it, I suspect 220 units would be better. You might have to order these units.Bob
*Unfortuantely a window unit or thru-wall mounting of a window unit is so cheap it makes everything else look so expensive.Split systems cost quite a bit more than the stuff and run variety.-Rob
*We recently added a split ductless system to our house. It's made by Janitrol and we love it !!!
