I am building a deck. The footers are 36″ deep, 12″ wide and resting an “Big Foot” plastic footer forms at the base measuring 32″ across. I am using 6X6 posts to connect the footers to the joist and beam structure. Each post measures approximately 2 1/2 feet in length. One of the 6×6 posts missed the center of the footer form and is resting off center. The outer edge of the post is at the edge of the footer form. Is this a problem? Will the building inspector call me on this? If so, what is the best way to solve the problem? Bedud

No it's not a problem, you're still bearing on the post. And have a good day.

Thanks, Gabe, for the encouraging reply. I didn't think it would be a problem but my township's building inspectors are real sticklers for detail. Just doing a little preventive maintenance so I might know what to expect when they come have a look. Thanks again for your input. Bedub
you would have to have a tremoundous load for it to be a bad situation.....2 hot tubs and 20 people and a truck maybee
Thanks, Frame Boss, for your encouraging words as well. No, there won't be 2 hot tubs or a truck. Maybe there might be 6-8 overweight people on this deck at a time. Most of the time, the people will be on the semi-circular terrazza that this deck will spill onto. Thanks again, Bedub
The only thing that could overload that footing, if it was poured plumb, is an inspector with such a big head that it would break his own neck..

For everyone who posted responses to my 12/31/02 question on off center footers, I just wanted to follow-up and say you were all correct. The building inspector didn't have a word to say about that, but he did commend me for doing a really great job. That felt good! Thanks for all your interest and feedback. BeDub
Good on you for remembering to tell the rest of the story.__________________________________________
