While I certainly appreciate the response, could you possibly say a little more? What's on the wood...a sanding sealer?

Sorry about that. It's raw wood, used to be ponderosa pine, now it's the South American substitute, which is harder and clearer. Stains up quite nicely.

It's a quick drying but deep penetrating water based sealant with anti-rot goodies in it to prevent the kind of damage to wood that several manufacturers suffered from in windows of '88 vintage. While it is sealed for protection from minor water staining or absorbtion, it will still take stain..
