Any Ideas?
I was asked to replace all of a homeowners 5/4 x6 cedar rake trim boards on his house (350 lin ft worth). The reason why he needs this done is that he has been invaded by carpenter bees. It is not so much that the bees are the problem but the so-called ‘endangered’ woodpeckers that go after them. I really feel sorry for these people, here they go all out to do the right thing (5/4×6 cedar) thinking it should last forever, and, within 10 yrs. they all need to be replaced.
They’ve asked me what would be the best provolactic agains’t this from happening again and I could only guess at three possible options:
a. Backline the boards with matching aluminium to stop the bees,
b. Apply some CCA or other carcinogen on the back side of the boards,
c. Use Cobra ridgevent material behind the boards.
All of these are quite radical and involved. Does anybody know of any standard method of dealing with this,or, any unorthodox , but proven and effective way of dealing with them.
