Yes, I read it - about a week after I finished siding my garage. I've had this timing all my life. I sometimes feel like the guy in that commercial that seems to be on a 10 second delay. (throws $ into toll both 1/2 mile past the booth; girl says 'I love you' he says nothing, she get's up frustrated and walks away, he looks at the empty chair and says ' love you too')
I'm not a pro, just a WW. I wish I'd seen the trick for the "mitered corner" earlier. Also, I did my building corners (as opposed to window corners) with 2x6 primed and painted cedar and then put J up to that. My hope is that someday I will re-side the garage with real cedar or hardi.
One thing not covered that I did (and feel pretty proud of it . .) I had to get J around the top of a fanlight window (2' radius). I cut the back of the J with snips every 1.5 inches, nailed once at the top of the window, then worked my way down each side with the wife's hair dryer unitl it hung to the shape on its own. After nailing, I covered the back of the J with that sticky-gooey window tape/water shield. I guess you can do those things (bend vinyl with a hairdryer) when time is not an issue . . . .
Ya, came in handy. Did my first ever siding on a 12x16 shed, finally using up a pile of siding bought cheap at auction years ago. Everything needed was in the pile for 10 bucks. I figured an easy risk for the trainee. Glad the article reminded to hit the studs when possible with the nailing cause 7/16 osb sure has limited holding power on the nails. Made me think of those guys using 7/16osb at 24" centers on roofing with fiberglass shingles. Not on my house thank you.
