I watch the newspaper help wanted ads and I frequently see ads whereby an apartment complex is looking for a maintenance man who is experienced in roofing, carpentry, cabinet making, painting, plumbing, electrical, and licensed HVAC.
Any of you guys ever take on something like this? Can you make any money?
I meet all the requirements except HVAC.
How in the hell do they find someone with all of these qualifications?

The HVAC is what they want first. Their thinking is any moron can do carpentry and all they need for electrical or plumbing is someone who can change out a switch or unclog a garbage disposal. As for a painter... please, who can't paint!
Years ago I needed work and answered several of these ads and that is the attitude I got. Frankly the disrespect came when they said they would only pay by giving me an apartment at no cost but I'd have to pay the utilities.
Hope you fare better, good luck.
I did it long time ago. I think now they are just a little over minmum wages and on call 24 hour a day. that why you get the apartment, so you can never go home.
It's a tough job. I helped a brother in law a long time ago paint a few apartments to get them ready for new tenants. I thought he wanted my expertise and paint tools. All he wanted was my drops for the carpet and kitchen floor while he turned on his airless. Sprayed everything white, fireplace and all. Some of the little paint spots when we got done in the kitchen was running away from us.
A weird day for me and my since of a job well done. He got $50 a unit, paid me $20. It was worth it to see what he meant earlier by saying,"Come help me and watch the paint run."

LOL, and I do know what you mean
Yeah, actually just last year I did that-----Got the apartment free, and anything I did that required more than 2 hours I got paid $10 hr for.
But with working another full time job, it got strenuous at times. most of the time it was cake, but then I remember one time I was gone for 2 days and got back and had a string of dirty messages, and notes on my answering machine and door.
One of the neighbors power went out, and He was mad at me for having to wait 24 hours to get it fixed-----Turned out the power company had shut him off! LOL
I did get to renovate one apartment (and redo it right) but I don't think I would do it again........at least not for the same landlord.
When in doubt, get a bigger hammer!
