This is more of a home owners topic than a home builders topic, but it doesn’t seem too far out of line.
A friend wants to attach mini-blinds to the inside of the casing of vinyl clad wood windows. She was considering using an adhesive to avoid holes and permanent damage. I suggested that the holes might be less of a mess in the long run. The only adhesive I could think of was the double-sided foam tape stuff which will stick to almost anything.
Are a few screw holes better than a gummy adhesive mess? And if not, what adhesive is best?
Thanks…

There is a fair amount of pressure put on the brackets when you raise the blinds. I would recommend using #6x1.5" or 2" screws to get into the trimmer.

*Ted,YOU DON'T ATTACH MINI BLINDS DIRECTLY TO A VINYL SASH WINDOW.The blind can be the same width as the window, but you attach the blind with the screws provided into the the wooden head jamb.Normally the windows are set flush with the exterior, leaving plenty of room on the interior side to mount your blinds to the head jamb. If, for some reason the windows were set flush with the interior, leaving no room to set to the head jamb, then buy the mini blinds in a longer width and attach them to the head trim casing instead.Screws being mounted into a vinyl sash window could easily cause damage to the sash itself (ie...breaking the air seal between the insulated panes; thereby allowing them to condensate between the panes and voiding the manufacturer's warranty;...screws may penetrate and break the glass;...may cause problems with working action or locking mechanisms if screws are too long.)Do not mount any type of screw into the sash unless you want to void your window warranty. Do not mount the blinds to the sash itself. Most double-hung sash windows are made to open inward for easy cleaning. How are you going to clean the window with a blind attached to it? (I suppose you could, but its not very practical.I say again, attach using the screws provided, and mount the blinds to the head jamb.Davo.
