Probably screw's and glue would be best. But from what i know, the flakes will eventually work loose anyway's and cause some squeek's. I use plywood.

Glue and screws are the best. Assuming your're using t&g subflooring, dont put the screws next to the groove in until you have the next sheets tongue in place. I pay extra for the type with treated edges as there can be problems with swelling in the t&g joint if it gets wet on the cheaper stuff. I dont know of any problems with flaking on OSB and I prefer it to plywood.
