Why put the braces so high. When I don’t like going into the roof, facia or soffits, I put them onto the wall with temporary blocking and make sure they are high enough to allow the jacks to lift me up to the facia.

Hey fellas,
What is your preferred method of attaching pump poles to a metal roof? I could attach to the fascia but i am restoring it so it presents a problem. Wall is not an option either since the asbestos shingles tend to shatter when nailed into. I was thinking that I could mount the pumps by nailing through the roof, and then putting a neoprene washer head screw though the hole when I'm done. I will need to set the same poles back up in a year or so for future work so I could reuse them also.
What do you guys think? What do you do for slate, cedar, tile etc. I have some techniques I use but am curious as to what others do. Like I said I try to use the wall or fascia if feasible, but sometimes the roof just makes sense.
Thanks,
Tom
*Tom,I use the underside of my overhang and have hit the holes again. Screwed through the rough sawn soffit and into the 2x4 lookouts. The brackets seemed made for this application. Use a good shear strength screw...no drywall screw. I think I'd shy away from any roof penetration. Best of luck.
*Tom - Do you have an open or a closed soffit? Are you on the eave side, or the rake? I'm with calvin, I will go to great lengths to avoid pentrating a roof.
*Jim, Closed/rake. I am working on the soffits too. What's the difference between installing a screw now, or the thousands that are installed in other corrugated steel roofs? Thanks,Tom

*Tom,Nothing says you cant move those braces from one location to another without dismantling the whole shebang. Put em in the frieze board. Don't have a whole lot more to suggest as there's not a whole lot more up there. If you want to put em in the roof, have at it. Maybe cushion the bottoms of the brackets so they don't dent the tin or mar the paint. And as always, best of luck.
