   Only if you don't want it to collapse. Or you could block all the verticle edges of the t & g.

   Blocking for t & g

   By blocking vertical edges?  I was going to do blocking across entire structure (continuous) every 24" to provide nailer for vertical t & g siding. wondering if i also had to do diagonal bracing. Any experience with structural framing like this?

   You need diagonal bracing. I was being facetious about the vertical blocking. Although if you use sheathing be sure to block all the panel edges. This isn't by any chance a pole building?

   Not a pole barn

   Regular balloon framed on foundation. Just trying to save some cash on the material. I'll look into the metal bracing.

   sheathing vs no sheathing

   Is there any particular reason not to use sheathing?

   sheathing for t & g

   Last time i was at lumber yard 4 ply 1/2" CDX was $25.  This is a detached garage.

   I would sheath it with something, even flakeboard would be better than nothing, but if you want t&g only you will have to use diagonal bracing. 

   There are various methods to brace the building, the easiest is metal bracing sold for that purpose, but you can let in  or surface apply 1x4.

   Of course you do

   Of course you need diagonal bracing. However, you don't have to use sheathing to achieve shear wall bracing.

   There are less expensive options. Have you considered let in metal "T" section diagonal bracing? Install per an engineer's recommendation. I don't belive precriptive code outlnes installation requirements for meeting IRC shear wall bracing requirements with let in bracing (wood or steel).
