   Ther's a whopper of a round barn just south of Joliet, Illinois if you happen to visit the area. I think it's even open for tours.

   Other than that one, I don't think I've ever seen one in Illinois.

   *There is one by Pontiac and used to be one by Ransom I think the UofI has one at Champain . Ah Armin what is that white roofing they used , looks like it was painted on.

   *There is a restaurant called "The Round Barn" in Champaign, Il. A beautiful structure. It was actually an old barn for cattle. They had to actually move it over on to a new foundation for it to pass city and state health ordinances before it could become a restaurant.Don: You are right about one being on the U of I campus.

   *There are (were?) several round barns in Indiana, including one in northwest Indiana (sorry, I can't remember where exactly) built by my ancester. A few years ago I got to visit and walk in and around it, really neat. Today I would have taken pics!And I grew up down the street from a house my grandfather built. It still took me forty years to figure out that I should be in the trades.Rich Beckman

   *Don, The white roofing is called snow, a very good insulator, cheap and it applies itself, the downside is it only works below 32 degrees.

   A friend of mine gave me a pic of this round barn that used to stand a few miles down from where I live. I know on the east coast they were not uncommon but this is the first one I have seen in Michigan. The park service tore it down when they took possession of the property in the late 70's.
