I want to add a recessed heat lamp in a bathroom ceiling. I have access to the attic crawl space above, and know that I have to use an “IC” can, but looking at the home center (H-D) selections I’m not sure what they have is rated for this application. I would appreciate any suggestions as to the correct fixture to use, any special precautions to take and proper trim ring finishing, as well as what wattage bulb to use.

I couldn't locate an IC rated can either, so I build a drywall box to put around the can (note the min. clearances), air and vapour sealed, insulated around and above and put the heater on a timer just in case (30 minutes max).
Don't recall the brand of the heater, but was off the shelf of a box store. IIRC, wattage was 200 (the red bulb). I prefer that to the white bulb, just too bright first thing in the am.
I'll make you a hell of a deal on a couple of bathroom heat lamps.
Brand new - can't remember the brand but they are in my storage if you want them.
