Subway tiles. DalTile has a line called Rittenhouse, I think. They are 3x6 inches, usually gloss white, laid in a brick pattern. A classic from the time of your grandmother. Colors are available too.

Just tiling mine now. A relatively new line from Italy called Appiani - stunning colors - simple sizes 1x1, 2x2, 4x4.
Depends on the size of the room, but if you can, I'd go with a larger tile than what these guys suggest.........probly 12 x 12's
In 10 years when they need regrouting, you'll be happy you did.
When in doubt, get a bigger hammer!
True, but until those 10 years, the 4x4 will look nicer.
what about color. maybe an off white
You might post your question at House Chat ... I think that's what that forum is for.

they dont like me at house chat, they dont like me at knots, or tool time, hell half of yall dont like me here. I got this sink at lowes for twenty. dont know what to do with it yet.
OK, I'll step up and break the news to you. You've been how long on that house and haven't finished the shower yet? Deodorant can only do so much, ya know!
The folks at House Chat, Tool Time and Knots are a lot more sensitive than the folks who hang out here at Breaktime.
At least stand out in the rain once in a while!
be honest. hardibacker is truly water proof
If you can wait a few days I'll send you a pic of my soon to be finished bathroom with shower. You might not like the color, but colorful it is. I like subway tile, I've just seen way too much of it. Be different, be daring!
WHOA- Hardibacker is water impervious---- NOT WATERPROOF!!! Water will pass right thru, but it will not harm it. Big Difference!
Take the sticker off & return it?
Profit is good.

Johnny, this is Dal Rittenhouse Square that Fast Eddy mentioned. Got it at HD, none of the local tile suppliers had it.

Also did the counter with it which I would advise against. This tile is slightly bowed, the center is higher than the ends. Makes for a not flat counter.

Nice shower Joe. But one question ... maybe I'm just an old country hick ... but I've never seen a shower with a shop fixture hung from the ceiling. Maybe it's just more common in your part of the country.
I like the lavatory bowl too.

I'm old too, can't see in the dark like I used too.
Wife sez it's gotta go, level needs a new home too.
The sink is an Ebay "talavera sink" that I bought in Calif. Found a seller close by & went to look at her supply. Paid about $60 I think. It's tiled flush, worked out well.

Tell the truth ... no amount of light will make "it" seem as big as it once was. Things shrink with age.
There is a shop here that sells nothing but Talavera tiles and sinks, matching switchplates, etc. They stock quite a selection. That's about what they charge for the sinks. I still like it.

On walls, a plain old off-white (or lightly patterned) glazed tile, in a 4x4 to 6x8 size tile. A neutral though contrasting border (made with 2" wide tile, eg, just inside the edge pieces) adds a little class without much expense or risk of going out of style. A lightly tinted (probably grey) grout also adds a lot (and hides minor stains) without much expense or risk of style problems.

I'd go with what Ed and Joe are telling you, subway tile, been around a long time and I'd expect it to be around a lot more.
