Guys,
Any good ideas for a unique vanity top? Sink is a drop in Kohler model with a lot of color (flowers, vines, etc). Its one of the designer models. Looking for something that would look good with it and would be unique other than granite, marble, etc. Any thoughts?

How about a wooden vanity top to match the vanity itself...to look like a piece of furniture converted to a vanity? Protect the top from water damage with polyurethane; or, maybe there is a better product for water protection that I don't know about.
Or, find an antique piece that will fit and convert it. That's what we're doing in our more formal half bath on the first floor.
*DeeVee, I had thought about that but was concerned about the water damage especially in the bath area with steam from the showertub and of course sink usage. Its also a 78" long vanity so I ruled out any antique piece. If I could find a really good water protectant, I might try something out of wood. Maybe an exotic hardwood such as those for decking? Thanks.Mike
*I did this with an ash top over a cherry vanity. You just need to seal all sides several times equally
*Did one of Qrtsawn white oak...
*Glass. For a modern techno-bath, shelf bracket half inch plate glass that was cut and tempered. Use a chrome basket cart for storage underneath. Too avant-garde? Glass over fabric, collage or pressed flowers on a painted panel edged with chromed counter edging and silicone caulked watertight. The advantage is that you can re-design whenever you get tired with the look or if you are just feeling artsy. Too "Martha-Stewart"? Sheet metal over a double thick MDF base. Stainless, copper or maybe powder coated.
*Thaddeus, Hmmmmm? What an idea! I like the glass idea. I'll pass of the stainless cart but the glass overtop of a painted surface or a collage is quite unique. Would you use tempered glass or just plate?Mike
*Rule of thumb is for everything in a bathroom to be tempered. But as this would be backed and edged it's probably not that important. Tempering also makes glass "softer" and more likely to get scratched. Talk with your local glass guy for what he would recommend as a table top.
