Hey folks.
I have a Black and decker/dewalt/univolt 9,6v cordless drill. The batteries have a part number of D9048-04 on them. One is toast and the other will soon follow. The last time I tried to replace the cells myself, the resultant battery lasted a couple of months only. Bought a new battery from B&D at $75 cdn has lasted 3 years.
Found this web site for replacement batteries http://tinyurl.com/2z45rg
So my question is……which of the 9048’s can I use? seems to be a difference in the milliamp hours rating.
I can’t find any indication in the instruction booklet I recieved with the drill. (OK laugh now……yes it’s old!!!but dam if it ain’t still working)

In general, if you have batteries of a given style/form factor with the same voltage and different AH ratings, you can use any of them. The only caveats would be that some devices may draw too much current to work with the lower AH batteries, and some chargers may overheat trying to charge batteries with a much higher AH rating than they were designed for.
But otherwise you're usually best off if you get the highest AH battery you can, at least so long as the $/AH ratio is in line. The larger batteries provide proportionally longer run times.
That's what I thought.
I think I'll get the largest AH"No doubt exists that all women are crazy; it's only a question of degree." - W.C. Fields
Divide $ by AH and see what the "sweet spot" is. It's worth it to pay a slight premium for the larger battery, but you don't want to pay double the $/AH.

are the original batteries labeled with their respective AH ratings?

Nope!

The AH rating may be imbedded in the model number somehow, like the last two digits.

got a pic of the writing on one of the cells from inside the battery?
