In most areas of the country, what is the maximum height above floor for the bottom of the egress window opening in bedrooms? I can ask my local building official, but I thought I would get some ready responses here.

About 2-3 issues ago there was an article in FHB about common code violations, and that was one of the items. Don't have the issue handy and I'm too tired to go find it (ok, I know it's in the executive reading room, but that's more than 50 ft away).
44" max from sill to floor the opening has to be min 24" high and 20"min wide 5.7 sq. ft min opening UBC (310.4) So if the clear opening in the window is 20" wide the height needs to be 41"min. If the clear opening in the window is 24" in height it needs to be a min 34" wide
