I have a split level with a side entry double garage that is contained in the portion of the house that is below grade. Currently we have a drain that runs the length of the door and empties into a catch basin with two sump pumps. The driveway runs along the property line and, because the close proximity of the property line and the short wall that runs along it, the entire surface slopes to the garage. It also extends to the backyard about 15′ to provide a turnaround and parking for our boat. We’ll be adding another bay to the garage (about 20′) and therefore need to extend the driveway and build another parking spot extension for the boat.
My need is to make this driveway drain differently if at all possible so I’m not relying so much on the sump pumps. I first thought of having the extension actually be a large french drain and funnel the water to it. My other is to capture the water and pump it out like it’s doing today, but have the catch basin in the driveway extension.
I also have a section of the yard that will be built with a wall that will enclose an area next to the house similar to having an oversize basement window area.
My question: What discipline do I turn to for help in designing the drainage for this project? The architect sent me to landscape architects who in turn suggested civil engineers…

As Mike says...pix and a site plan with elevations noted would be helpful
