I am looking for solutions to the problem of bending brick molding along the header a curved garage door. The arc is approximately 12′ accross and about 6″ deep. The molding is 1-1/2″x2″. Several attempts have yielded broken pieces of molding, frustration and hostility. It looks great on paper… any sugestions how to make it a reality. Thanks, Sean

Sean, have you tried to steam the moulding first? Then clamp up in a jig. Let cool/dry and set in place. Might work... the other option, is to get a pair of helpers, equip with hot gloves, steam and bend into place, fastening from the center first, with the helpers setting the bend at the ends. Much like a boat rib. Only guessing....

*Excuse me?? Brick mold?? I thought that went out with the ark??
*Mark, all the rage... but now made of wood, not brick. Well, at least it is on the topside of the planet.
*There have been several FHB articles about building up curved moldings or casings with thin, bending stock laminations, then using a molder, router or shaper to achieve the finished profile. there have also been articles about steam bending with details about site building a steamer.
*Sean, just rip alternating strips from two pieces of brick mold, then glue and fasten in place. Just check page 103 in March FHB.It's easier to do than it is to describe. The diagram is about crown mold but the principle is the same, and will be even easier with the brick mold-John
*Use PVC brick mold. If you can't cold bend the radius it can be heat bent as needed.
*Thaks for the sugestions folks, I'm sure one of your suggestions ought to do the trick, Sean
*Sounds like another Yankee invention to me.
*Sean, I agree whit JRS above
