I’ve got a concrete walkway with some “expansion joint” grooves that will be receiving a stained sand mix. They’re about 1 1/8″ wide by 3/4″ deep, and about 48″ long. The adjacent concrete has been troweled with a rounded edge trowel. When I get around to applying the sand mix, I don’t want any to get on the existing concrete, and also it’d be nice to have it carefully masked off to leave a clean edge.
What I’m wondering about is the best tape to use. I think normal blue tape wouldn’t stick too well, and was leaning toward silver duck (duct?) tape.
Ideas? Suggestions?
There are 8 joints, 4 ft each, so that’s just over 60 feet of tape. I don’t think price is much of an issue here as long as I can find something that sticks well to concrete and will hold up to a little scuffing by the trowels.
Oh, and on a related note: Client (my wife) wants a deep espresso brown almost black tint on the filler material. Any ideas or recommendations on that would also be appreciated.

I wouldn't use duct tape -- it'll likely leave a residue. Gaffer's tape, perhaps.
I have some red vinyl tape that would probably work. Don't know what it's called other than that. I don't think its anything special. I've seen it in a couple of stores. Have you tried regular masking tape? I'd use 2" tape and then place heavy cardboard over the concrete to keep the bulk of the slop off.
