I’ve got some cedar lap siding to patch and piece into a 1913 remodel. The old asbestos “plate mail” siding was stripped off and we’ve found a few spots where they did some pretty bad patch jobs over old doors, windows, etc. Gotta make all that look good.
The material is a 3/4 x 6 bevel siding that’s been run through a shaper to look like 2 3″ pieces. I’d like to use my 15ga pneumatic nail gun to put them up with, if possible. The nails seem to hold pretty well, and they do minimal surface damage. I’ve used the electroplated galv nails but they seem to have a tendency to get a bit rusty even in the storage box, so I’m not feeling real good about using them in an exterior application.
Any recommendations? If I could get some good galvanized, or even stainless, would I be OK using these? Or should I be thinking of hand nailing?
I’ve got about 500-600 sq ft of patch and fill in work to do.

I'd want stainless or hot dipped galvanized. 15 ga is pretty light for siding, I'd think about hand nailing, or buying a siding nailer and ss nails.
I would use my siding nailer, shoots a ring shank maze nail. Or buy hand drive maze nails, 15g. finish nails might seem to be holding now as it just got a fresh hit, over time as the wood moves I would not rely on a finish nail as my sole fastner
Here's where I get stainless gun nails:
