I need to put a wide, shallow bevel on a 2×8 for a custom sill. I’m thinking about fastening a strip to one side and running it through a planer.

I worked on a job where we made a bunch of cedar rail caps that were beveled both ways from the center, milled from 3x10s. We made some beveled 'sleds' that fit into the planer and were clamped to the table, so we could run a lot of materal thru. It worked great.
Careful about fastener placement so the blades don't strike them.
a bit of double stick tape should do the trick
