Hello,all:
Jeez, what a great site! (It’s gonna get me into trouble, though, sneaking off all the time to peek at the posts…)
Anyway, I’ve a question that maybe y’all can help me with… I’ve dug way back into the hillside and poured some six-foot retaining stemwalls for this shop/studio thing. We get a lot of snow here, that inevitably melts and soaks the ground but good… I need to keep the water out.
I’ve used bitch before, years ago, but my feeble brain can’t remember if I glued it or just stuck stuck it up there like cling-wrap… is there another product I should consider? Some sort of roll-on, tar-like substance? It’s gotta be durable, ’cause we get earthquakes here, too, and things move and rub, even underground.
I’m considering a french drain, too…
By the way, I’m not worried about a mess… I’ve hired a sixteen-year-old kid of higher- than-average intelligence to do the really dirty work. It’s good for him.
Thanks, jp

If you do BITUTHENE (sorry, I'm a spelling ####), use the primer on the concrete and then apply the bitu. Then, a protection board, then a drainage mat, then a gravel burrito. That's what we do here. No paint-on stuff.
You might also want to consider bentonite clay. Trade name for the blankets is Voltex. If memory serves they are 4'X15' blankets, hilti gun attached to vertical walls, 4" overlap.
