This is probably a dumb question but here it is.
I just recently bought some black chalk (had to because I can no longer get blue) and I cant find anywhere on the bottle that says if it will wash off or if it has dye in it that wont.
Why did they quit selling the blue? Did it have China lead in it or something? I cant even get it at Lowes anymore.

I believe that black is a permanent chalk.
>>Why did they quit selling the blue?<< That must be a local thing - readily available here in DE. Checked Irwin website - blue is still listed.

Never underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
>I believe that black is a permanent chalk.<If thats the case, then all I can buy is black or red. Both permanent.

Bambam,

Click on "all products"
Click on "marking and layout"
Click on "Chalk refills" - blue available up to 5 lb.
Also now listing a violet, interior use, "wipe-off" chalk --- interesting.........
Also now listing a blue "staining" chalk -- claims needs no top coat for outdoor durability ......interesting again..........

Thanks, that helps.Where there's a will, there are 500 relatives
Black is permanent, for some reason the big boxes are stocking a lot of it.Blue is out there. I like orange for temp lines, unless your snapping on plywood, because then it seems invisible.

Trust in God, but row away from the rocks.
We use black chalk for snapping lines because they don't wash away. But when it gets on your hands, it dries them out, so we use blue chalk for most everything else.
We can get it here at the lumberyards and it was at the big box stores last time I was there.
Why not order several gallon bottles of the blue from ABC Supply and transfer into smaller bottles as needed.
There was a one-page dealie in FHB several months ago that showed the different colors available and gave their relative permanency."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson
"When asked if you can do something, tell'em "Why certainly I can", then get busy and find a way to do it." T. Roosevelt
I guess I missed that one. I'll have to check on that.Where there's a will, there are 500 relatives
If my memory serves me, on each bottle of Irwin chalk, there is a guage that says how permanent it is.You get out of life what you put into it......minus taxes.
Marv
That would be handy, but I'm sure there is no gauge on my 10 YO small bottles.

Thanks for the offer, and I might take you up on it. First I'll check with the ABC supply like the Slatesman suggested. I think there is one in Shreveport or matbe even Bryan where Capn Mac lives. If not then I'll probably be emailing you.Where there's a will, there are 500 relatives
