Bosch 1587 Jig Saw now made in China

KenHill3 | Posted in Tools for Home Building on October 25, 2008 06:00am

Noticed at HD this jig saw was newly priced at $99. I thought ‘Great, good deal for anyone who needs a good jig saw.’ Upon closer inspection I find it is now made in China. And now, this venerable standard of jig saws is being produced in China.

Got back to the van and pulled out my 1587. ‘Made in USA’. Somehow I just feel better having this one.

This is probably old news, but it startled me. Shouldn’t have though, with the way production has been moved. And, hey, maybe the quality is just as good or better (?).

most of the tools vended thru HD are fabbed in china...

other stores (not HD) selling like brands are made else where....

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming

    WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!

My Bosch Jigsaw was made in Switzerland, as was my cordless drill and power planer.

How pathetic that a venerable German company has to outsource to the Swiss ;o) Only my hammer drill is made in Germany.

I have a Bosch router and belt sander made in USA, another router and impact driver made in Malaysia.

All my Bosch tools are above average, without regard to country of origin (though I hate the spindle lock on the Colt). Not sure how Chinese Bosch perform, but as a global company, they do make stuff all over.

ya...noticed that awhile back in a "sale flyer"...$120.00 less than a few months prior WTF?

I checked at the store ....piles of them, made in china.... "oh no sir, we still have the Swiss made one over in the jigsaw aisle" (for more than I paid for it 5 years ago)

Not surprising I guess with brand competition/global market etc.
