I removed the bottom wood panel section on a wooden garage door- 8’ft x 7’ft approximately. After removing all of the hardware I noticed the bottom metal brackets where the tension spring is attached were severely bent & twisted, so I ordered a new set. It turns out that the new brackets are the same dimensions except for the nob head that sticks out and the tension wire attaches to. The outer rim/head diameter is to big to accept the tension spring fitting now on the garage. Can I grind down the outer diameter on these 2 brackets so it is compatible with the tension spring accesorie fitting? Or will this sacrifice the structural integrity and strength of the metal brackets? Any suggestion on where to pick-up or order garage parts in a timely efficient manner? Oh, by the way- Like a jack-rabbit, I threw the old brackets away. Do u recommend grinding existing part or buying new replacement part?
