Any suggestions for a brand of humidifier? My HVAC guy has installed Aprilaire before but will put in whatever I want. The house is forced air gas heat, about 2500 square feet and is in northern Iowa.
Thanks for any help.
Kind regards,
Dennis

My preference is the Envirocare humidifiers by Honeywell, with the HumidiCalc coputerized controller. Not only do the offer features, such as the AgION anti-microbial pad coating, that no other offers, they have a 5 year warranty, whereas AprilAire offers only 1 year. If you have a high efficiency furnace, go with the powered version in lieu of the bypass style.
Tim,
Do you have a link to the Envirocare system? I couldn't find it on Honeywell's site.
Thanks,
Dennis
Go to http://customer.honeywell.com/Business/Cultures/en-US/Default.htm then select Products, Homes, then Whole House Air Quality. From there you can select from air cleaners, humidifiers, CO detectors, ventilation products and UV air treatment.
I installed an Aprilaire two years ago, primarily because it was the only unit available that was rated to work with hot water on a cold air return (a constrant imposed by clearance problems). I've been quite happy with it. The exterior temperature sensor that adjusts humidity levels is nice, though I'd prefer a tad more sophisitication (24 hour memory). But regardless of its imperfections I'd consider this sort of sensor to be a requirement should I need to replace the unit.
But, having said all that, I don't know of any reason why any of the major brands wouldn't be acceptable. They're not real complicated.
happy?
Aprilaire here, works great, the couple calls I made for support were handled nicely too. I have forced air, oil heat.

I have two AprilAire powered humidiers, and I like them so far. I especially agree with the powered part, but of course you have to have a plug nearby. I also like the humidity/outside temperature adjustment.
