Tried today to break thru ceramic tile to install some bathroom accessories. Used a masonry drill with a hammer drill. The drill bit was the better quality..so why does it take 1-1/2 hours to make a 3/16″ hole?
Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated.

Maybe you have porcelan tile?

Pete's got it. Ceramic would go right through, not so with porcelin. Diamond. They're a guy's best friend...
You should also cool it with water while drilling if possible.
Then it must be porcelin tile. Is there available a 3/16" diamond drill bit?
That's a good question. I'm sure there is but it may be a little hard to find. Search the internet.
Zano,
This may get you out of a jamb if you di not have time or money to procure a diamond bit.
SLowes has some little pointed bits made to drill glass. They're made be Hitachi. Get 2 or 3 because you will probably break 1 or 2. They will cut through the porcelin (if they don't break first). Once you are down to the clay, switch the bit back to carbide and it should go on through with a little time. Some tiles still take longer than others.

Zano,
Go buy some cheap diamond coated bits. They will cut through ceramic or porcelain like butter. With those it should take a minute, and they go for less than $5.00
