I am starting to detail a brick paver patio set in a setting bed on a reinforced concrete slab. There will be some living space and open space below it. Water will be drained off the edge of the patio. If you’ve tackled this in the past, I’m looking for feedback on how you’ve done it, and how it’s held up.

I might consult the TCA guidelines not for tile, but for general information on how to do this.
The TCA calls for 4" of gravel for drainage; then a 4" slab. I have seen the slab pitched at the standard 1/4" per foot ratio, although the TCA does not call for this. Then a membrane over the slab, which will help the runoff well, run off. Then a TROBA drainage mat; then the setting bed of 1" of mud; then the finished surface, in your case, brick.
Any water or moisture will go through the joints, and if it makes it through the setting bed (God forbid) it gets drained by the TROBA, falls onto the membrane and via slope, out the side.
