I’ve got a client that has brown water coming from the hot water only tub spout. The plumber tells me that the spout is discoloring the water when it sits in there for an extended time.
Anyone ever heard of this? I have more digging to do to find out more info but I was hoping someone can comment about the plumber’s claim.

I've had a new black iron nipple do that. Eventually it stops, or you can change it out for a galvanized nipple.
Nipple being the piece that connects the spout you see to the threaded elbow inside the wall, in case that's not clear.
Thanks Mike, it's worth a try.
I would use brass rather than iron. I wish I had on mine. Brass is a little more but for one per bathroom and lifetime use not even a factor. For those who have fought for it Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.
Brown hot water can be a sign of a failing hot water tank (ie. it is rusting because the liner is shot). All the hot water in the house would be effected if this is the case.
