Need a “ballpark” estimate on a heater for my camp. Approx. 11,500 cubic feet, cathedral ceiling with 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and loft.
Need BTU’s. I don’t need to get fancy with type of windows, door seals, etc. Just a ballpark estimate. 45,000, 50,000, etc. Going Propane for the whole camp (heat, cooking & hot water.
Just an estimate. Currently using a 30,000 btu vent free propane (it was given to me) just so I can use the place for snowmobiling this year.
Thanks.
Chuck

Insulated? What's the coldest temps you have there, and how comfortable do you want it to be on the coldest days?
Hi Dan,
Insulated everywhere (r-30 ceiling)(r-19 walls)(r-30 floor). 2 paddle fans in ceiling. Temp's can get down to 20 below zero (mid state Maine)
Want to be comfortable (68-70) and building incase I need/want to live there year round.
Final stove will be vented.

Well, just based on setups I've seen (no calculations) the 30K should be fairly close, though probably "tight". Also, for that kind of setup you often want a bit of extra capacity (and maybe a 2-stage furnace) so that you can warm the place up fast, vs leaving the heat up all the time.Note that you should be wary of using the unvented heater continuously -- it pours out a lot of moisture and could cause moisture damage in a structure as tight as yours probably is.

Definitely going to keep a window ajar this year. Permanent stove will be vented.
Typically go in, turn on heat, go out for dinner/beverage and return to "warmer" camp.
Thanks for advise. May look for a little larger BTU just to heat a bit faster.
Of course, you really should have someone do at least a rough "Manual J" style calculation, before you spend bucks on the unit. Here's a halfway decent online tool to do it. Takes a little figuring, but I got it to work for a toy example.http://www.mrhvac.com/loadcalcshortform.htm

I'm guessing about an 800 sq ft footprint?
24' x 32', 10' walls and gables
