I seem to be laying more and more tile lately, and I need a good tile saw.But I don’t want to (even as a tool junkie) spend a grand on one.
Mostly putting up wall tile and bathroom floors, so I don’t need big capacity, just something that cuts straight and makes an easy 45 degree cut.
Any suggestions?

I used the little(just looked it up!)PlasPlugs diamond wheel cutter. Tool Crib has what looks to be the same one I used for $120. The owner hadn't used it too much, but seemed to work ok. Don't know how long it would be till she burned up, but $120 may be worth the chance! Not long till it paid for itself. As I look at the ad, I see TC no longer carries the one I was thinking of getting! It was a box type deal, with the blade comming up like a table saw. I think it went for around $400. Looked nice and compact, oh well....guess I didn't need it! MK has a little one for $300, good name for wet saws. Jeff
*Joel,I was in the same situation. I looked at the PlasPlug and was told that it was more for wall tile. I ended up buying the MK-370. Like Jeff said, it should be around $300. 7corners hardware had it for $299 which included shipping. It's not as quiet and smooth as the bigger saws because it uses a vertically mounted right angle grinder as the motor. I had no problem cutting 12x12 floor tile and wall tile at all. I think it's a very well made tool, probably the closest thing to the big saw without spending $600 to $800. there is a 45 degree fence that you can get as an option.Ed
*Porter Cable also makes a small tile saw that is very similar to the MK 370. It is the PC 1500 and also sells for somewhere just under $300. Haven't used it so not necessarily recommending it. Just pointing out another option. Good luck.
*HD sells the PlasPlugs model for about $90-100. It claims on the box to handle just about any material up to 1" thick. It will be tempting if we decide to put tile floor in that third bedroom...
*Then we're (Cdn) are getting ripped off. They sell for C$199; and, if you buy them for under $100, they should go for $150.
*Hit the search button and check out what has been said about the Plasplugs tile saw. Seems quite a few of the contractors here use them, including me. I have cut lots of tile with it, and it still keeps on going. Last job I used it on was 5/8" thick, 12" x 12" terrazo floor tile. Worked wonderfully. I also use it for cutting cultured marble and small pieces of Wonderboard and Durock. Still have the original blade after 3 years.James
*Well, become the 51st state, already! Then you get to play with real money. :) j/k
*Well, yu-no, that would make us the largest state in population and about 1/2 the land area of the new US: that would make us pretty well dominant. We could could use that leverage to bring in strict gun controls, socialized medical care, and 50%+ income tax. And I guess we'd have to become a fully trilingual country (we bring French, you bring Spanish) and all civil servants would have to be fully trilingual to work in the government. We'd insist on reconcilliation with Cuba as part of the deal of course. Yeah, great idea you have there Mr. Pita.
*Nah, I was thinking we'd just rape you for yer natural resources and send you on your way. So what if you'd have the biggest population, landmass - won't win you much. Reps and electoral votes are based on population, but you'd still only get 2 senators. Checks and balances, thank Delaware. You'd just be a very large swing state, lots of pork to come your way, I imagine.
*Jig saw advice, please. I need a hand held jig saw to do alot of cabinet arches, and other 1 x cuts. Having a very difficult time getting any meaningful advice from sales people. Prices range from $20+ to $200. No one seems to be able to tell me what the difference is---except, of course, what I can see.Do I get a faster, smoother, more powerful cut???Lighter weight could be a plus factor. Ease of adjustment? speed? Would appreciate comments from someone who uses same. Recommend brand & model. Thks
