Have to dig a line from pole to new house for electrical and telephone line. Is it OK to bury a water line in the same ditch? There is a possibility that a shop or small barn will be built in that direction in the future. Thought that as long as ditch was already dug, why not throw in a pipe for water line. Ditch is about 200ft.

can't use the same ditch/trench around here or anywhere they use the standard building code... i might be wrong... but i think they have to be 36" apart... but might not be a bad idea to run an empty 2" pvc pipe in the trench just in case you might need to pull something later...

Depending on where the frost line is in your area, a water line is most likely going to have to be buried deeper than the electrical lines anyway.
That is right. I have had to dig up a lot of water lines for one reasonor another but never had to dig up any conduit yet. Regardless of code, I would think it could be pretty expensive to dig for the water line withthe electrical conduit sittin on top of it.
But - this is a "shed" so maybe it is summmer use only - like a potting shed?

I did, with the blessings of the bldg inspector and the elec utility. Watch your frost line depth. Here it's 18", the elec was substantially deeper, with 12" of dirt on top of it.
While you're at it, consider everything else you might ever want. I later regretted not burying a few more wires.

I looked in the 2000 IRC, which includes the gas, plumbing, and electrical codes and the only limitation that I could find was for having water and sewer in the same trench. And even that can be done under specific conditions.
However, local codes and most importantly local utility companies will have their own rules.
