A buddy is inquiring,
He has styro insulation on his foundation. wondering if he can cover it with cement board, which would be partially burried, a few inches into the ground.
He plans to stucco it with acrylic.
Is moisture wicking from the ground going to cause problems with the cement board? With the stucco?
Thanks for any info.

The manufactureres ay that will definitely be the problem. I had the same idea 3-4 years ago and looked into it.

I buried Hardie Panel 2-8" in the soil and we get 90"+ rain per year. 3years ago and no sign of any problems.
I did talk to the Hardie folks 1st and they said it would most likley work but they would not warrent it.
I'm happy
I agree with Bobtim. I did just that a few years ago on a project; used mesh tape and parged it with sandmix (was an ICF stem wall for a big addition).
Still looks great - no cracks
the dampness in the material will freeze and the boarg will delaminate....
tried it...
it didn't work... didn't make it one winter..

Don't recognize your location in profile, but you do mention winter. Seems like it works in the deep south, but won't work in my climate.
Thanks to all.

Wow - I can see that happening. Guess I've got to be careful generalizing from here in the sunny south.
especially with global warming!
(Which seems to be giving us cooler, drier springs and summers - nice!)

Notice how I didn't jump on the "Borg delaminating" thing. Does One-of-Seven become One-of-Twenty then?
