Hello again, anybody know if they make a device that will locate electrical cable in walls. I have installed some outlets and insulated and drywalled the exterior walls in my garage. Tonite I was gonna install heavy duty brackets for some shelves I wanted to put up until I realized that I may drill trough the electrical cable while installing the lag screws. I guess its a leasson learned and I should have noted where I ran the cable. Since the garage is half block and half framing the outlets and therefore the cable are higher that normal.
Thanks
Dan

Also, you should have put nail plates over any wires that weren't at least 1" away from the surface of the stud. And in a situation like that it doesn't hurt to put nail plates over all the wires at "shelf" level.
Hey Dan, Danz here, you are right, didnt think of the nail plates but I did make sure to drill the holes for the cable center of the studs so drywall screws wouldnt be a problem but will install the nail plates in the basement anyway. Hoping someone knows of a device to locate wires or have I just given an inventor an idea...... or maybe I just have to take a chance (power off first).
Thanks again
Dan
A good sonic stud finder designed for the job will generally locate those wires.
Is this where I mention Bosch....Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming.... WOW!!! What a Ride!
I have a GB Instruments "Circuit Tracker" that can locate a wire if you plug a special transmitter into an outlet at the end of the "run". It works through drywall and will locate the wire within about 2 inches.
For incandescent lighting circuits you can screw a plug adapter into one of the sockets and use the tool.
HILTI $$$$

The Hilti or the Bosch...Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming.... WOW!!! What a Ride!
